First things first: Beany is free. Browsing the map costs nothing and always will. Nearby cafés, city search, roaster profiles, events, and our Explore recommendations are free for everyone, forever.
Beany Pro adds the community layer. Your public profile, check-ins, ratings, notes and photos for every cup, unlimited shareable lists, and the feed that shows what your people are drinking. Pro costs 0.99 € a month or 9.99 € a year, and the first month is free.
Here is why we charge for it.
Everything we earn comes from the community. Pro subscriptions, merch, a ticketed event now and then: our money comes from coffee people, never from coffee shops. We decided early on not to take money from cafés or roasters. Not for listings, not for placement, not for scores. A café is on Beany because it serves real specialty coffee, and its score comes from the community. The moment shops could pay us, you could never fully trust a pin again. Plain and simple.
A small fee also keeps ratings meaningful. Every score on Beany comes from a member who checked in, tasted, and took the time to grade coffee and service separately. People who invest in the community tend to rate with care. That is worth more than a thousand drive-by one-stars.
And it keeps us independent. Beany started as a couple of coffee people mapping their own city, and it still runs that way: community-funded, no ads, no investors deciding what the map should look like. Built by coffee people, for coffee people. Your 0.99 € is what makes that possible.
One more thing, because we mean it: specialty coffee has a price because everyone from farm to bar deserves fair pay. We think the same is true for apps.
