Why We Charge for Beany Pro
With the release of the new Beany app, we are introducing Beany Pro.
All features that you know from the old wheretodrink.coffee app will remain free for everybody forever.
If you want to use the new features, subscribe to Beany Pro. Subscriptions are 0.99 EUR per month or 9.99 EUR per year.
We think this is a fair deal. Let us explain.
Firstly, your money will go to maintaining and expanding the app and the database.
We decided never to take money from coffee shops or roasters early on. We do not want to be biased when rating a shop or putting a new one into the database. How a shop is rated or displayed in the app should never be influenced by whether they are paying us money. Plain and simple.
Secondly, we want to avoid becoming like Google Maps. While researching specialty coffee places worldwide, we have seen countless reviews on Google Maps, Tripadvisor, and other pages that read something like this: "The coffee was too expensive. 1 star."
We hate reviews like that.*
We want people to give honest opinions about the coffee and the service they experienced. However, we want people to be constructive. Therefore, we want people to join Beany Pro who care about coffee and know how much hard work goes into crafting specialty coffee beverages. We hope that by charging a small fee (0.99 EUR is the most minor fee we can charge via the Apple AppStore), we attract these kinds of folks. Folks like you.

Everyone in this value chain deserves fair salaries. We believe that specialty coffee prices are justified. A beverage's price is usually displayed on the menu, often even in big letters behind the bar. Nobody can say they did not know how much they would have to pay when they ordered their beverages.)
